I'm fairly certain that I heard this particular Amy Grant song about three million times during my first few years of life. At the time, I didn't realize that the term "baby" was a pet name -- I assumed she was just a mom singing to a baby. Which she was so glad was hers.
I can remember sitting in my dad's jeep hearing this song on the radio. At the time, many people speculated that Rick Astley was black. While the thought didn't cross my mind at that age, I do remember imagining the singer would be a big guy - imagine my surprise when I saw an actual picture of him!
Admittedly, this song didn't come out until 1994, so I would have been 9 by then. You'll have to forgive this enormous memory gap, but I still remember hearing it on the radio often (and thinking it was the coolest song ever... you can't imagine my face when I realized it was being used as the soundtrack for the 2010 online game Robot Unicorn Attack!)
6 didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!:
The first song I remember loving is "Electric Youth" by Amy Grant. My friend and I wrote out the lyrics on poster board so we could sing along while doing the radtastic dance moves.

Another early favorite (don't hold this against me) was "Here Comes the Hotstepper" by Ini Kamoze. It was on my Christmas list, and my mom went to the record store and asked for "Tiny Commode."

She and I were in love and had plans.
The first single I owned was on vinyl (yes, I am that old!)it was "That's All" by Genesis

Leah: I was actually thinking of that Electric Youth song a few weeks ago, but I couldn't remember who sang it! I couldn't only remember part of the tune. The only reason I'm familiar with Hotstepper was because it was on the movie Ferngully XD Yancy and I used to watch that all the time!
Jason: A pretty girl who can sing well and didn't have to dress like a slut to get people to listen to her music? Awesome!
Shawna: I still like Genesis, so there you go. Vinyls, though… wow! The song doesn't really work with Collins dressed like a homeless man, though… unless it's meant to be a period piece or something. And you named your cat Duran, so it was definitely no secret!
Kylie Minogue singing Locomotion, although this song annoys me to no end nowadays.

Sweet Lullaby by Deep Forest. Still love this song!

Orinono Flow by Enya. I totally remember listening to my "way-say" all the time!

Oh gosh Lucie, not Locomotion! Nuuuuuu... I can still remember listening to Deep Forest when we were little. Not really sure how I feel about it now, though!
